Emma Corrin is a British actor who rose to international fame for their portrayal of Princess Diana in the critically acclaimed show The Crown, a show which depicted the personal lives of the British Royal family. Born on December 13, 1995, in Kent in England, Corrin has emerged as one of the most talented and versatile actors of their generation, noted for their emotional depth, poise, and ability to fully embody complex characters.Â
Before The Crown, Corrin had appeared in smaller television and film roles, including a guest role in the ITV series Grantchester and the film Misbehaviour (2020), in which they played a young version of Jillian Jessup. However, it was their breakthrough role as Princess Diana that garnered widespread recognition and critical acclaim. Corrin's performance was praised for its sensitivity, nuance, and authenticity, capturing both the vulnerability and strength of the late Princess Diana. The role earned them a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama and an Emmy nomination, solidifying their status as a rising star.Â
Corrin has been an influential voice in discussions around gender identity and expression. In 2021, they publicly came out as queer and later updated their pronouns to they/them, becoming one of the most high-profile nonbinary figures in the entertainment industry. Their openness and advocacy have contributed to broader conversations around representation and inclusivity in media, particularly for LGBTQ+ individuals. They have also become a fashion icon, known for bold and androgynous looks, frequently collaborating with designers like Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton.Â
Their openness about their gender identity has been met with both support and challenges. Corrin has shared that coming out as non-binary was a "reality check," as they faced significant online hate. Despite this, they continue to use their platform to advocate for non-binary and LGBTQ+ representation, aiming to create a more inclusive environment in the entertainment industry. Â
Corrin continued to expand their career after The Crown, appearing in projects that further showed off their range. In 2022, they starred opposite Harry Styles in My Policeman, a romantic drama exploring queer love in 1950s Britain, and in Lady Chatterley’s Lover, an adaptation of the D.H. Lawrence novel, in which they played the title role. Both performances demonstrated their continued evolution as a screen actor, adept at taking on emotionally charged and unconventional characters.Â
