The Outhouse on Capel Street in Dublin is one of the most iconic and well-known LGBTQ+ organisations in the city.
Originally established in 1996 just two years after the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland, the Outhouse has grown in both size and scope.
In 1999, Irish President Mary McAleese made an official visit to Outhouse, which was heralded as "an indication of how Ireland as a nation has matured in the last decade".
In its time Outhouse has also helped found and develop two other prominent LGBTQ+ organisations, Belong To LGBTQ+ Youth Ireland and the Transgender Equality Network Ireland.
Both organisations have made huge impacts on the lives of LGBTQ+ people in Ireland.
The Outhouse location on Capel Street offers a safe space for queer people to gather and support each other.
You can do this either in the café which serves locally roasted coffee, pastries, pressed sandwiches, sausage rolls, and other tasty treats.
If the café isn’t your style, you can relax in the Outhouse’s library which has one of Ireland’s largest collections of LGBTQ+ titles, with almost 4,000 books spanning many genres.
Outhouse also hosts many different for every member of the LGBTQ+ community from Sapphic Social, Bi+ Monthly and Ace & Aro, there is an event for everyone.
To conclude, the Outhouse Dublin is one of the best organisation for LGBTQ+ people to find support and a safe space, so if you ever need it, you can look for it at the Outhouse.
