A total eclipse of the heart could be possible
If only the Sun and the Moon could touch fingers for one instance
And yet the lovers stood separate
Spread apart by an invisible divide for millennia.
The cosmos laughed and cried when they
Whistled at each other’s tails, exchanged glances
Through the midnight sky.
Lady Sun hoped to confess her love for Lady Moon,
But she did not:
They could never be together,
Never be locked in a tender embrace.
And so one day, in their miserable yet sweet parry,
The moon crashed.
It tumbled down into the water,
Taking the stars with it,
And shrouding the world in an abyss of darkness.
A total eclipse of the heart was possible
In that moment:
Lady Sun wept, and wept,
because she knew what had happened:
Lady Moon had felt the same.
And now she was to blame,
For not acting sooner,
For not thinking she was enough,
For thinking they could never be together;
And so she wept over the dead body,
Holding within her
A total eclipse of the heart.
